Lindsey A. Wolkowicz

folds and faults

Lindsey A. Wolkowicz, detail of Between Us (There are mountains), 2025

About the Exhibit

folds and faults is an exhibition of new work by Kingston based artist Lindsey A. Wolkowicz. Wolkowicz’s dynamic use of figure plays with duality: space and object, surface and form, the corporeal and the psychodynamic. Her distinct mark-making and intersecting planes of color present the viewer with bodies trying to find grounding within the rugged landscape of change. These figures struggle to maintain connection– to each other, to place, to softness, to familiar structures and familial roles – as anchors of belonging within a constant state of transition and uncertainty.

Artist Statement

My work examines the relationship between us and the spaces we occupy, exploring memory, connection, psychodynamics, and the impacts of place or position on our perception. My drawings create interdependent visual relationships between figure, surface, line, geometry, and color, simultaneously interrupting and supporting one another. In a rhythmic combination of contoured limbs, illustrative lines and architectural planes, my mark making seeks to reflect the movement, chaos and attempts at control in grappling with the constancy of change.

Bodies drawn are at once strong and susceptible, seeking to ground themselves through their hands and feet, touch and relationship, while the destabilizing structures beneath or around them shift. These compositions don’t represent physical places but instead reveal the emotional and psychological spaces we find ourselves in. These embodiments of circumstance make visible internal experiences of grief, fear, uncertainty, vulnerability, and comfort.

Lindsey A. Wolkowicz’s Bio:
Lindsey Wolkowicz (b.1981) is an artist, educator, writer, and arts administrator. She was born and raised in Metro Detroit where she was first struck by the ways that architecture is physically marked, much like people are, by memory, relationships, and by the passage of time. The reflective and often interdependent relationship between the body and the spaces it occupies, has long been at the center of her work. Grounded in drawing, Wolkowicz’s studio practice also includes sculpture, muralism, photography, video, and performance installation.

Wolkowicz is the Art Director of O+ (O Positive Festivals Inc.), a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization based in the Hudson Valley which provides healthcare to artists and musicians by creating opportunities to exchange their work for access to wellness services, including through the annual O+ Festival. She has taught drawing in various settings for elementary through adult learners around the world and has exhibited her own work internationally. She is proud to be a recent recipient of recognitions for her work supporting the arts within her own community including as a YWCA’s Women Who Roar for the Y Honoree and the Kingston Midtown Arts District Red Goat Award for outstanding service to the arts. Wolkowicz lives and works in Kingston, NY with her wife and their daughter.
