Artist in Residency
Feburary – March 2023
Yu-Hsuan Wu
About the Artist
Yu-Hsuan Wu is an interdisciplinary artist whose work engages art writing, photography, butoh dance performance and installation. She has published nine books in Taiwan, including poetry collections, photography collections and film reviews. Over the years, she has also organized literary festivals and cross-border art workshops in Taiwan, with more than 300 sessions so far. She has spoken at UCLA and Trinity University in San Antonio, sharing her literature. To explore new forms of creative expression, she studies a master’s degree in creative writing at the Institute of American Indian Arts in 2022.
Yu-Hsuan’s focus in dance is the body of nature, the body of language, and the body which contains our emotions and thoughts. Yu-Hsuan said: “I have always been attracted by things that I cannot grasp, and I vibrate with those mysterious and unknowable forces. In order to undertake the encounter between myself and the world, sometimes I write poetry, and sometimes I dance. The cores of poetry and Butoh dance are interlinked, they both let the human consciousness of “ego” disappear, and let the world I resonate be born.”
Artist in Residency
Our mission is to foster new and experimental, cross-discipline work in performance, installation, multimedia and fine arts. We offer invited artists a chance to show full solo shows of new work which combines performance with other art forms. We also offer focused intimate residencies to work in collaboration with or alongside of another artist to create something cross-disciplinary and new. This work is not expected to be a finished piece but a works in progress. Our goal is to create a space where artists can open their minds to new ideas and experiment. Art:Incubated!
